Queensgate, Glenrothes

A design & build contract with Kingdom Housing Association for 85 affordable new homes for social rent on the former Tullis Russell paper mill site in Glenrothes.

The new homes form part of a larger residential-led mixed-use development expected to include a total of 600 homes as well as retail, business and industrial units. The design created a safe, comfortable and enjoyable place to live with modern colour palette and materials that are robust and easy to maintain.

The houses and flats were designed in accordance with “Housing for Varying Needs” and to enable “Secured by Design” accreditation.

The properties benefit from low carbon heating supplied by the Glenrothes Heat Network.  This network is a public private partnership between Scottish Government, Fife Council and RWE which utilises steam generated as a by-product of electrical generation at the Markinch Biomass CHP Plant to deliver low-carbon heat to houses, businesses and public sector buildings within the Glenrothes town centre.  The project makes a significant contribution to reducing carbon emissions in Scotland and received funding from the Scottish Government’s Low Carbon Infrastructure Transition Project (LCITP). All of the new homes on this 85 home development benefit from this low carbon heating solution.
