Charleston, Dundee
Campion Homes is the principal contractor on this project on behalf of Blackwood Homes & Care to deliver a mix of 66 homes using state of the art technology and design features to help people to live as independently as possible.
The Charleston development, split over seven local brownfield gap sites, will integrate with the existing urban dwellings, providing local residents with fully inclusive and accessible homes that are flexible and adaptable to suit their changing needs.
The development consists of 66 units, including 2 bedroom flats and 4 - 5 bedroom houses. The mix is a result of the identified requirement for 1 and 2 bedroom wheelchair accessible properties distributed across the sites.
Each home in this development has been specifically designed to be fully accessible, adaptable and to include a range of benefits to help people live independent lives. The properties have a range of additional benefits, including solar panels, rise and fall worktops and kitchen cupboards and Blackwood’s digital technology to assist independent living. Electrically operated sliding pocket doors aid circulation throughout the homes.
Equipped with Blackwood Home & Care's innovative CleverCogs technology, each home is designed to enhance the quality of life for residents, enabling them to live more independently. The digital technology can be personalised and links users to care and health services, home automation local information, entertainment and video access to family and friends.
With nine active sites, comprising seven residential and two Sustainable Urban Drainage System (‘SUDS’) sites, and challenging logistics, careful planning had to be put in place to ensure the sites could be serviced and developed efficiently. Campion Homes implemented a planned order of trades who had to get access, with over 80 workers on site, including 32 joiners and nine bricklaying squads.
The SUDS sites provided best practice in dealing with storm conditions associated with climate change.
We work closely with our partners and the community to ensure the development could progress as smoothly as possible.
The properties were designed by architects Lewis & Hickey Ltd, with Fairhurst providing the structural engineering services.
These homes will be totally transformational for those who will move into them.
